Rooster Rock State Park is a day-use only park and the viewing is from the large parking lot. Most of the viewing will be straight up, or to the East as it is at river level inside the gorge.

From beginners to experts of all ages, here's your opportunity to view the stars and other celestial objects up close and personal through telescopes. Viewing highlights may include planets, deep sky objects, and more. Sometimes we can even view the International Space Station passing overhead.

There is no formal registration for the event itself, just show up and enjoy the evening. You don't even need a telescope to participate; other members are enthusiastic to share their views. This is a good opportunity for beginners to get acquainted.

Come and observe your favorite objects and spend a wonderful evening with friends, and friends you haven't met yet.

If you are new to observing here is some information on Star Party Etiquette, Star Party Supplies and Star Party Tips.

RCA VOLUNTEER INFORMATION:

For RCA volunteers with telescopes, please check in at the park entrance to pick up your 'free' $5 Day-Use parking pass.

The viewing area will be held at the riverbank section, east of the Ranger Station of Rooster Rock. The August viewing will be at the upper lot, located south of the Ranger Station. Does have public restroom, drinking water, sidewalk, plenty of parking, and trails. Exterior white lights will be turned off at the Ranger Station, but the interior white lights will remain inside the restrooms for public use.

At the riverbank parking (and upper lot in August), small section of the parking area will be blocked off for RCA volunteers to park their vehicles and telescope next to the viewing area. Please arrive early to claim your space.

The viewing will start at sunset and ends at 11:30 pm. Please inform the Rangers if you plan to stay longer than 11:30 pm.
