These telescopes are available to members to check out and use for a month at a time.

You may borrow a telescope if you have been a member for 3 months.

Telescopes are picked up at and returned at the monthly general meetings, unless special arrangements are made in advance with the Telescope Librarian.

#1	Checked Out	6" Newtonian Dobsonian This telescope is ideal for beginners of any age. It is lightweight enough for a child to carry, and sets up in seconds. Like all Dobsonians, aiming this scope is as simple as pointing it in the general direction and finding your target in the finder scope. This telescope will easily fit into any small car for transport to a star party.

#2	Checked Out	8" f8 Newtonian Dobsonian This telescope is ideal for beginners and casual observers. It is easy to set up, easy to aim and can easily resolve planets and hundreds of deep sky objects. This scope is optimal for planets and relatively small DSO targets like globular clusters and galaxies. Because of its relatively high f ratio, it can develop higher magnification than the larger diameter scopes. The optical tube will fit in the back seat of most mid-size autos, while the rocker box will fit into nearly any trunk.

#3	Ready for Checkout!	8" f6 Newtonian Dobsonian This telescope is ideal for beginners and casual observers. It is easy to set up, easy to aim and can easily resolve planets and hundreds of deep sky objects. This scope is optimal for relatively large DSO targets like open clusters and nearby galaxies. Because of its relatively low f ratio, it will not develop very high magnification like telescope #2, but will give the observer a very rich field view of the sky. The optical tube will fit in the back seat of any mid-size auto, while the rocker box will fit into nearly any trunk.

It is easy to set up, easy to aim and can easily resolve planets and hundreds of deep sky objects. The optical tube will fit in the back seat of any mid-size auto, while the rocker box will fit into nearly any trunk. The optical tube is an easy one handed lift. The rocker box, while only slightly heavier generally requires a two-handed carry due to its awkward shape.

#7	Checked Out	Celestron 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain This telescope is well suited for the Dob driver who wants to start learning to drive an SCT. The mount and yoke are typical of all SCT's and must be polar aligned. Like a Dob, it must be manually aimed, but the tracking motors will keep the scope on target. This is most helpful when sketching objects. It has been recently cleaned and excellent images can be obtained from it. Broken down, the scope will fit into any car. The telescope in its new JMI case is a somewhat awkward carry, but the case does have luggage wheels.

#10	Under Repair	12.5" f5.5 Newtonian Truss-tube Dob This is an ideal telescope for finding those tough faint fuzzy's like the Virgo cluster galaxies. The scope can accommodate either 1 1/4" or 2" eyepieces. A set of wheelbarrow handles w/wheels bolt to the sides to make transport across a site easy. The scope dis-assembles easily and the upper cage nests into the lower box for compact storage. The Rocker box measures about 2' square by 28" height when collapsed, so a small SUV or pick-up is required to transport this telescope. It is an easy two-person lift, one person can move it by separating the 3 major components: rocker box, Mirror cell, lower and upper nested assemblies.
