Junior Rose City Astronomers Resources

Our new Youth Director is Jeannie London, and she is open to questions or suggestions for the Junior RCA program.

RCA YOUTH CLUBS;

Currently, we are starting a "Sky Puppies" club for interested 2nd to 6th graders. Students participating must be under the age of 11.

Concurrently, we are planning to sponsor a "Universe Sampler" club for students over the age of 11 but under the age of 14.

If you are interested in any of these clubs, please come to the general meeting on Monday, July 20th as the youth will be meeting in the employee lunch room behind the auditorium stage.

Junior High and High School students are also encouraged to register for the Binocular Messier club. This club is looking for adult volunteers to support this part of the program.

Each club has a workbook which can be purchased through RCA or the Astronomical League. If your child is interested in joining or if you have any questions, please contact Jeannie London at youth@rosecityastronomers.org.

A CALL FOR ADULT VOLUNTEERS

We are looking for adult support for our youth clubs. If you have a special knowledge you would like to share or a couple of Monday evenings a year you would like to volunteer please contact Jeannie London at the above email. Volunteers are being recruited for month to month schedules.

Youth Meetings during the RCA general meetings at OMSI
Meetings start at 7pm and meet in the OMSI employee lunch room behind the auditorium

  • Meetings for 7 to 11 years old – Sky Puppies - focus on earning an Astronomical League certificate
     .

    While the vast majority of the observing programs are geared to beginning and advanced adult observers, the Sky Puppies Club is designed just for the younger observer. The Astronomical League encourages young observers to hone their skills early since most hobbies and vocational interests begin at an early age.
